About “Mahal Kita”:

“Mahal Kita” means “I love you” in Tagalog, one of the languages spoken in the Pherehilippines. This piece is a sonic exploration of the experience of learning a language as an adult and the desperation of trying to communicate with the ones you care about through different languages. Throughout the piece, the players speak several Tagalog words commonly learned when first learning the language while also mimicking the rhythms and cadences of the words with their instruments.
