Setting Emily Dickinson’s poem of the same name to music, ’“Hope” is the thing with feathers’ was inspired by recurring feelings of hopelessness experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, rather than dwelling in despair throughout the entire piece, the work gradually embraces a sense of optimism and a determination to push forward for a better future.
